4 salmon steak or filets
¾ cup soy sauce
½ cup brown sugar, packed
2 tbsp cooking oil
½ tsp ginger
¼ tsp garlic powder
Thaw fish if frozen. If using a cedar plank, pre-soak for 2-6 hours
Mix soy sauce, brown sugar, cooking oil ginger and garlic powder together well in a deep bowl
Add fish and marinate for 30 minutes in refrigerator
Place in greased wire fish basket, or use a soaked cedar plank. The salmon can also be wrapped in foil to place on the bbq
Cook over medium heat on BBQ for about 10 minutes per 1 inch of thickness. Turn and baste with sauce often. Done when salmon starts to flake apart easily. Serves 4
Marinated salmon can also be baked in the oven on 350 F. for 30 minutes
A nice trick to perfectly poached salmon: place salmon on tray made from tinfoil (fold edges up to prevent dripping). Put the tray into a soaked, brown-paper bag. Put bag straight into the oven. The salmon will be finished when your chosen sides are ready
